The question guiding my sustained investigation is: How can I convey the effects of my ADHD through illustration? This question relates to me personally because my ADHD affects my everyday life. I struggle with school, doing small tasks, remembering details, and processing information. My brain physically lacks the amount of dopamine needed to do things a neurotypical person could do. Even Though it's difficult, my ADHD is a part of who I am and I can never change that. My sustained investigation is fueled by my everyday struggles as a person with ADHD.
Each piece of my sustained investigation represents an aspect of my struggles. Pieces 6, 7, and 11 symbolize being understimulated and over stimulated
and my forgetfulness. These internal mental struggles tend to manifest into physical behaviors shown in pieces 2-4, 8, and 15. Stimming by picking at my nails incessantly, paralized by executive dysfunction, and finding comfort by stimming in safer ways. ADHD also affects how I perceive myself seen in pieces 1, 9, 12-14. Due to my emotional fragility I put pressure on myself to mask and hide my emotions for the comfort of others.
Grooves (from life 1):
By using a mirror I was able to capture the form of my face to create a clearer sense of depth. I wanted to use a record as my canvas to represent my love of music, and how it impacts me as a person and an artist. Painting the subject directly onto the record makes the background as important as the subject successfully intertwining them.
